Heroes
of the Panchanthra

"As
a child, I enjoyed listening to my Great Grand Aunt narrate stories from the Panchanthra tales. It is believed that
Vishnu Sharma wrote these stories for three princes
who were too stupid and lazy to learn the traditional way. It became
his challenge to educate the three boys and make them 'incomparable
masters of the art of intelligent living' in just six months. Vishnu
Sharma made up charming little stories of animals and birds, each
with a moral and the princes listened to him with rapt attention.
From these stories they learned the art of practical life, survival,
and wisdom.
This
piece is my humble tribute to these marvelous heroes of the
Panchanthra who have fascinated Indian children for centuries."
