Waiting
for Arjuna
11 x 14",
acrylic on paper
"This
is a painting of Uloopi, one of Arjuna’s wives.
Uloopi was an underwater princess who was briefly
married to Arjuna during his wilderness years. She waited
all her life for him to return. Legend has it that
just before her death in Manipur (Northeastern India) she
is reunited with Arjuna. As a child, the story of Uloopi’s
constant search for her husband used to make me cry."
